global_warning

16 minutes and 23 seconds – please lend me your time and watch this two years old video by The Economist if you have not already done so.

Today is quite apt for rediscovering this gem as most #OECD countries (including Japan, US and EU) are going through record temperatures and there is loss of #human lives (especially #elderly ) and #livelihood (#fires, #floods and #famine).

In summary, there is highly likelihood that global temperatures would have gone up by 3 degrees by end of this century and this will fundamentally change how humanity can live and evolve during and beyond this period of rapid #environmental #change and #degradation

Ultimately the rise in temperatures will alter global #migrationpatterns#economicgrowth, destroy #businessmodels of several or most #industries relying on #stable #supplychains and will result in a #unpredictable, #unstable global #political and #economicsystem.

What could be done? should we all give up and accept this as fait accompli for us and for the #future #generations

In my humble view we should redouble our efforts to reduce #co2, focus on #renewableenergy including #geothermalenergy, adopt #circulareconomy #recycling and #zerowasteliving. The only way humanity has survived in the past is by adapting and the current situation requires urgent action.

Certainly our current solutions are #flawed, there are not enough #materials available for #renewables energy which is #intermittent, #electriccars have large #carbonfootprints, #greenhydrogen is currently #uneconomic, #recycling requires global standards, enforcement and coordination and the list goes on as so many experts keep highlighting.

However it is better to keep changing our bad habits by reducing #fossilfuels, #petrochemical dependence and keep working on solutions. It may delay the rise and ultimately once we hit the threshold, I believe these strategies/technologies (their improved versions) would provide us a viable human future. There is no point giving up now and restarting again in 30/50 years from now considering our current way of living is #unsustainable.
